NEW YORK, Jan. 5Robert Ianniello, owner of landmark Little Italy restaurant, Umbertos Clam House, today announced the first significant changes in his establishments world famous menu in over six years. Referring to a personal invitation hes extending to the local food and restaurant press, Ianniello made a positive point of the fact that little has changed since Umbertos opened its doors almost three decades ago
Our customers can always count on Umbertos for the quintessential clam sauce (Umbertos serves it in hot, medium or sweet varieties), and the best in Italian seafood specialties, steaks and chopsall at reasonable prices. But, now were formally adding many of our occasional specials to our permanent menu, stated Ianniello.
Ianniello was referring to an array of chowders, soups and bisques as well as the main courses: seafood risotto, shrimp scampi and numerous pasta specialtiesincluding house favorite lobster raviolito his restaurants permanent menu.
Ianniello continued, Umbertos calls itself The Heart of Little Italy. And, thats because our food is synonymous with the overall unchanged character of our neighborhood. Theres little else like it any-
where. And, doing anything to change that is news. But, really, were not changing anything. Weve just found a permanent place on the menu for some frequent guests.
Ianniello concluded, Umbertos is considered somewhat of an anomaly in New York restaurant circles. Tourists tend to gravitate to us because were highly recommended in all of the travel guides. But, we get more than our share of regulars and celebrities, despite the tourist traffic, due to the quality of the food and the unrivaled ambience. And well never mess with either of those because theyre both unsurpassed.
Recent diners have included: Martin Scorcese, Robert DeNiro, Michael Douglas and Bette Midler; and Umbertos is a frequent stop for some of the Citys tour buses.
